I've been talking about taking a pottery class forever. The idea of throwing on a wheel has been super intimidating since the last time I tried it, I failed miserably. Ironically, I went to THE art school that has one of the best ceramics programs in the country - Alfred University. I pretty much got my hands into everything but ceramics. Maybe one class, a few unfortunate slabs and pinch pots, but no wheel work... Anyhow, I was talking to my friend Libby (who happens to make beautiful ceramics and runs one of my favorite galleries in town) and she encouraged me to check out the continuing ed class over at PCC. So I finally signed up and am totally in love with it! It requires a lot of centered energy and patience - two things that I am definitely lacking, more than I'd like to admit. Slow and steady wins the race, right? Maybe less caffeine and more herbal tea too? So far I've conquered 5 bowls and a single mug. I think I'm just going to focus on a few shapes for now. Excited for the glazing and firing process! More to come...
1st mug... drying
first bowls... squished into oval shapes and drying.
